What kind of gas do you use in your Regal? Premium or Regular?

I'm everyone's been asked this question at least once. But seeing as how most engines made in the past decade are engineered to take both even though a lot of them recommend using only premium. So whats your 2 cents about about this topic?

Just go with whatever the manufacturer recommends. They always have actual data to back up their recommendation. Its not like they have a stake in the gas companies. If that was the case then every manufacturer would only recommend premium.

I would just use premium. Not because people say you get better mileage. Not because people say it makes it run faster. But mainly because most premium gases don't have ethanol mixed in. Also premium gases can remain stable in your tank way longer than regular gas. Meaning if ever for some reason you're unable to start it up for a long time it wont gunk up the fuel lines.

My 2011 CXL Turbo runs better on premium.

I usually use 89 octane. Did a couple hundred mile trip this weekend and used 93 octane. Didn't notice any diffference in performance, but I don't drive the car hard. Only have 1400 miles on the car, so still waiting for it to loosen up. I do really enjoy driving this car. Excellent handling response, decent stopping, quite cabin, great sound system, nice body lines. A little more get up would be nice, but overall, very impressed so far.

I use the premium.

Gas

The manufacturer suggests premium and I have a tune so what ever the highest octane i can find i use.

gary9648 02-11-2013 05:11 PM

My 2011 2.4L reccomends 87 octane and that is what I use. I would not use higher grades than reccomended because it will not improve the performance and it will certianly drain the wallet faster. I have used 87 for 18,000+ miles with no knocking. Use a top tier brand of gas. I get about 22 mpg around town and 30-32 mpg on long highway trips.

Not true, ethanol is in premium fuel also the EPA has allowed the gas companies to increase the ethanol content from 10% to 15%. You can buy non ethanol premium gas if you can find a service station in your area that sells it. Unfortunatley it costs about $1 dollar more than the ethanol content premium. Premium fuel here. Just got 30.5 MPG average on a 1200 mile trip to Massachusetts and back this weekend. I could never get number like that using Regular.

E85 was $1.15 per gallon cheaper than unleaded today. I filled up my van on e85 for the first time. I'm down less than 1mpg over 130+ miles so far.

I've been running e85 not much mpg difference,I'm going to try 91 next tank.

I use 91

I have a turbo .. use regular all the time. Took it on a trip .. kept the speed around speed limit and got close to 34 mpg. Granted it was flat driving with the only hills being the over passes over roads.

Have you noticed any knocking while using regular? Just asking because premium is recommended for the turbo.
