My wife's 90 Buick Regal Limited has the 3.8 multi-port fuel injection engine which we purchased new, it did not come with a tachometer and I don't have access to one.
When she starts it in the morning (75 to 85 degrees) it goes on fast idle and will cruise the neighborhood at up to 9 miles per hour. Tapping the gas pedal will do nothing and it takes about 10 minutes to get it back to normal. The difference between cold start and warm rpm is slight, not excessive that I am concerned about it going too fast and it does not clunk when putting it in gear.
I searched the Haynes manual and can't find anything like a fast idle solenoid.
