Backup Camera Installation

I installed my Boyo Backup Camera, but I am still planning where to install a small LCD monitor, so the camera cables are still in the tire well.

I ran the wire through a slightly enlarged license plate mount hole, so the wire would not get pinched. I passed the wire through the large rubber grommet in the back of the trunk.

I punched a hole through the rubber and pushed the cable through, sealed nice and tight.

Easy as cake... Now I just need to find a place for a small 3.5" or 4.3" monitor. Any ideas???

Looks good so far.

Fwiw - Texas highway patrol pulled me over one time for a similar back up cam on my truck, because it blocked part of the "michigan" on the top of my license plate.

I think they were just bored.
Thanks... I was thinking of two possible locations for the 4.3" monitor.

Either in front of the center stack cubby. My panel is always open because of my iPhone charger/mount in the 12V port. It would render the little storage place useless, but it is not good for much anyway. The second place I was thinking of was the overhead panel. I don't have a sunroof, so the middle is a big blank panel where the roof controls would be, I guess...

I hear you about the DPS Troopers... They could have pulled you or anyone over for anything, they just selected your camera.

If I ever get to get in our Regal, I'll give it a good eyeballing. Probably get to ride in it this weekend I hope:rolleyes:
I know my wife will try to steal my Regal if I ever let her drive it
What about a windshield mount right next to mirror
I ended up with a little smaller LCD

I got this one from Amazon yesterday, so I will see where it will fit and look okay. Unit Size: 4.25" x 2.75" / 10.8cm x 6.9cm

I attached one of these on the underside of the pop-up console cubby in her Acadia.

Didn't know there was really an interest in this on the Regal, I can make it all factory through the NAV unit (or swap to the other mirror) if you happen to have one.

Backup Camera LCD Mounted

Well here it is, mounted up in the roof console. I cut out a little U-notch about 1/4" wide by 3/4" deep into the center console cover. the srand base hooked right into the inside of the console and the tension holds it tightly in place. I just need to run some wires. The pain in the butt part :D

Let me know what you think.

I have to T05 package, no nav screen. I had the backup camera from my G8, and bought another 3.5" LCD like the one I put in my Wife's Acadia. These are about $35 at Amazon.

Have you done anything else for the new Regal? There are quite a few of us chomping at the bit for mods :D

I'd love to get one for my navi regal, just need the camera and run the wires (I agree pain in the butt part). How would it attach to the navi, is there audio inputs on it? I haven't looked at it yet, but I'd imagine it'd be a pain to remove the navi. Would it be hooked up so when your car is in reverse, it goes on? I have a 6 speed manual as well.
Bryan, does it distract you while driving or obstruct any views/mainly rear view mirror? Looks big but pictures can be deceiving. How are you going to route the wires?
wires can easily be tucked in the headliner and down the piller into dash. shouldnt have to remove headliner either. I have a 4 gauge pod in my truck that mounts above the rearview and did it that way.

You can see the monitor at the top of the rear view mirror, but it does not really interfer with my view. I'll probably have the rear view camera on while driving because of the wide angle view. You can see cars in your blind spot as they pass you. I have a similar setup in my wife's Acadia and the extra vision was helpful on a long road trip to Florida last summer.

I just need to run the cable... I made my amp/woofer install the priority on Friday night, instead of the camera
Hooked up the monitor to the camera (Finally)

I finally wired up the camera to my monitor. I ran the camera cable down the passenger side under the molding, then up to the pillar (Carefully lifted the seam to slip the cable inside) and got my power and ground from the overhead light wiring. I used the manual light "On" to switch my monitor on. It's not a perfect solution, but I did not want the LCD on all the time. Unless I missed a switched on, I only found 12V constant and the interior light switched "On". I am pretty happy with the results.
