I bought a RL1, and i like the car very much, the only problem is: the audio is too crappy, even my 06 xterra speakers beat that.

How about you guys? did you buy the premium audio version of regal?

I have had my Regal for five months and I simply turned up the tone controls. The treble is set at 4, midrange at 2 and bass at 8. Also, keep the fade set in the middle. It takes about 100 hours of hard use before the speakers are broken in.

I was VERY dissapointed With paying 30k sounds like crap I have the rl4. What's the difference? I am courious if new speakers will fix the fading music or if that's just the headunit not having enough power?

I also have the rl4(1SD in Canada) and have not noticed any fading. The sound is fine after adjusting the tone controls as outlined in my previous post. It is important that the equalization setting for each music stations is set for "custom" after the tone controls are adjusted.

I've got the Harman Kardon system in my Regal and I find it great! the one issue I have is when a song goes to a quiet part it seems as if the volume decreases, once the song starts to hit hard again i.e. bass starts thumpin, the volume seems to come back up. I'm not sure why it does this but I can live with that.

My Tone settings are; Treble 5, Mid -1, Bass 8-9 depending on the song.

I just took delivery on my RL1. I had my brother help me tune the EQ - he's a sound engineer and used to work as a consultant that evaluated audio systems in vehicles for the OEMs.

Though, I'm sure he gave me a bias to the low bass end as he knows that I have a preference for more bass. My settings are:

Treble: 7
Mids: -2
Bass: 11

Cheers!

Does the RL1 package have the Harman Kardon system?

No. On the non-turbo Regal one must have the RL #5 to get the Harman Kardon system. On the Regal Turbo one must have the #3 package to get this same system.

I've attached a link to the "Build Your Own" page on the Buick.com site.

You'll have to excuse me, I'm not informed on the different packages in the states. I imagine they are the same ones here in Canada just different names to them.

I love my Regal, but the sound quality of the stereo is by far the biggest disappointment. The overall tuning of the audio is very boomy. Although it is equipped with some decent tweeters, they are drowned out by boomy and muffled door and rear speakers. I am big on having a nice hard hitting low-end bass in my music, so when I find myself turning the bass into the negative numbers for some stations I go a little crazy. On some talk stations I am forced to have the treble up to +12 and midrange and bass on -12. The only solution I have found to help is fading the front speakers a couple of notches to help balance the levels.

I'd be interested to hear if simply switching out the speakers themselves helps at all.

RegalTurbo,

LOL! My apologies. I sometimes forget that many members of this forum live in Canada and your packages may very well be different than those listed on buick.com. I will have to visit Buick of Canada's site so I can better educate myself before I make a fool of myself. Whoops! Too late! I imagine the packages offered in Canada are the same or at least very similar.

Best regards.

There has been a lot of discussion about replacing the speakers to improve the radio reproduction; however, I doubt this is the solution. While I am not an audio engineer, I suspect the problem is due to the power amplifier not having sufficient power bandwidth. This might explain why the reproduction can be substantially improved by setting the tone controls, treble, mid and bass, all at +10. Just my thoughts.

can you by chance post some links here about the discussions?

Mine is RL1, so it is very likely the speakers are weak and i would love to get them replaced.

I think i may have time to pull a door panel off the front and take a look at what's inside this weekend. If not then, within the month. I'll post up when i do.

I have been trying different tone control settings....so far 10 trebel, 7 mid and -10 on the bass is what I seem to like the best. You would think that by taking the bass to -10 , there would be no bass....not the case. I also seem to notice that with different volume levels ,it wants different tone settings. With the above settings I was listening to some music at 25 or 26 volume level and i was very happy with the system. As soon as i took the volume down to 10 , the clarity was lost. Hmmmm
