Question Regarding New OnStar Apps.

Greetings,

I recently received an email, as well as a brochure, regarding the new OnStar MyLink mobile app. This new mobile app allows the owner to start their vehicle remotely, speak to an OnStar advisor anytime, anywhere, as well as perform many other cool functions. Here's the problem... my understanding is that you must have the 9th generation of OnStar. Many of the 2011 Regals, including my Regal, have the 8th generation. When I contacted an OnStar advisor about the aforementioned mobile app, the person apologized and informed me that my vehicle is not eligible due having the 8th generation of OnStar. Needless to say I was not happy. OnStar, as well as GM, are advertising (to me specifically) about this new mobile app, yet I cannot even get the app.

Maybe it's just me, but this shows that OnStar and/or GM do not have their act together. I am actually going to write, or contact GM and OnStar to express my frustration. It does not make sense to push a product to a current customer who is not even eligible to receive the product.

If any of you are in the same situation, I would love to hear from you.

Thanks in advance.

yep me too, same. it seems you have to read the very small print.
Not happy whatso ever with using old hardware in my new car
I'm curious to see if they will respond with a fix and I hope it's as simple as replacing the rearview mirror assembly or ECM firmware upgrade.
It isn't.

Yea, we as salesmen are not suppose to push the new apps on our products until they all have it. I think they may have sprung this info waaay to quickly. Big slip up on their part. 2012 North American made model will have the new software.

I agree that the information on the new apps was sprung way too quickly. Not a good move.

I'm not really that upset about the lack of availability of the new apps with the Regal... mostly disappointed. I am more frustrated about the lack of available parts and accessories for this car. As of the moment I type this reply, I have waited over 5-weeks to receive a simple door gasket. I have also waited just as long to receive simple touch-up paint. Although I really like my Regal and do not regret my purchase, I don't think GM planned the launch of this vehicle well. I have to assume the lack of parts and accessories has to do with the fact GM is not exporting many of these vehicles from Russelsheim, Germany. There are only so many Regals that can be built and shipped to the U.S. I even know of more than two people who waited over 8-weeks to receive their Insignias. With such a long lead time for those who live in Europe, I can imagine the lead time increases exponentially.

I could not wait for production of the Regal to shift to Oshawa, nor did I want to wait. I guess this is the drawback from purchasing an early production model.

Again, regardless, I still really like my Regal. I hope that the estate version is in fact launched here in the near future!

From what I've read and what was explained to me by an OnStar rep, the 9th generation of OnStar can not be downloaded/installed on the Regals built in Germany. My understanding is the 9th generation could not be retrofitted (if that's the correct use of the term) in the German-built Regals.

If my information and explanation is not correct, please correct me.
I am very disappointed at this as well (the 2011 malibu is the same from what i've heard), but when you call onstar about it they are supposed to give you 3 free months of service.
